Letters home from Edwin Pease, including observations about the institution of slavery, the poverty of the white population of Alabama, the disillusionment and homesickness of Union soldiers, and the physical discomforts of military life; includes a manuscript map of the positions of Confederate and Union forces at Decatur, Alabama (probably in 1864) drawn by Edwin Pease, also includes a letter written by P.R. Alger in which he describes the declining morale of Union soldiers, military papers of Colonel Henry J. Doolittle, diplomas and certificates of James R. and Jacob R. Doolittle.
